Storm Damage Assessments

Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and two state agencies are in Minnesota this week to hold a series of meetings to assess severe storm damage and flash flooding that occurred last month.
They are gathering preliminary damage assessments to public infrastructure and certain non-profit organizations.  It's the first step in determining if Governor Mark Dayton will make a request for a presidential disaster declaration.
A meeting was held in Houston County Tuesday and a second meeting was scheduled for Wednesday in Fillmore County.
A threshold of $7.2 million statewide has to be met to qualify for federal assistance.  Houston County had an initial preliminary assessment of almost $6 million.
