Same sex couples can begin applying for marriage licenses in Winona County next week. July 18th is the first date for the applications but the marriages cannot take place, under Minnesota law, until August First.
County Recorder Bob Bambenek told the Winona County Board the applications for same-ex marriages will not change much from the current applications, except there will be a new designation on them.
Bambenek says it's the first designation change for marriages in Winona County since 1853. The applications will be available at the Vital Statistics office at the Government Center.
