The Goodhue County Planning and Advisory Committee is recommending a moratorium on sand mining in the county not be extended.
The Post-Bulletin of Rochester is reporting the moratorium is set to expire on September 6th. The committee's recommendation goes along with the same recommendation made by the county's silica sand study committee.
But before making a final decision on the issue the Goodhue County Board will hold a public hearing on August 6th to see what citizens think.
Meanwhile the paper says, Lake City's Tourism Bureau Director, Greg Schreck, told the Planning Advisory Committee the county needs to do more to protect the $200,000,000 tourism industry along the Mississippi River in Winona, Wabasha, Houston and Goodhue counties.
Schreck said tourism accounts for some 54,000 jobs in those counties.....
