The City of Winona, with the help of the Winona Coca-Cola Company, will pursue the option of funding the reconstruction of the Lake Winona Bike Path Project with local donations.
City Manager Judy Bodway says the Winona Coca-Cola Bottling Company provided the spark by pledging the money received from the sale of commemorative last run 6.5 ounce vintage glass bottles to help pay for improvements to the bike path.
Bodway says those funds already exceed $70,000. Additional donations from memorials and from the Winona Rotary Club will also help in funding.
Bodway notes these generous gifts have eliminated the need for funding with bonds.
The current funding needed, after the City allocation, is approximately $280,000. Bodway estimates that after some matching gift pledges are counted, about $140,000 is still needed in new pledges and gifts.
Gifts can be made to the Winona Community Foundation's Lake Park Bike Path Fund (Exchange Bldg, Suite 314, 51 E 4th St, Winona MN 55987).
