Beginning on Tuesday, August 6th and running through October 20th, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum will be exhibiting 'Illuminating the Word: The Saint John's Bible.'
.A team of artists coordinated by renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson in Wales, and a team of scholars at Saint John's University have brought together the ancient techniques of calligraphy and illumination, resulting in a substantial living document and a monumental work of art. It is the first handwritten, illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey in over 500 years.
It's a one-of-a-kind original vellum sheets and complemented by high quality reproductions.
The appearance of the bible is organized by the Minnesota Marine Art Museum and Saint John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota. It is fully sponsored by the Slaggie Family Foundation.
