A 28-year-old rural St. Charles man was jailed Tuesday after authorities served a search warrant at his residence and turned up marijuana plants.
Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said authorities went to the Ian Michael Smith residence south of St. Charles along County Road 117 about 1:00 pm armed with the warrant.
Brand said they seized 44 marijuana plants from outside the residence. He said there was evidence of a growing operation inside the home and that the plants had been moved outside,.
Brand said Smith was jailed on preliminary charges of fifth degree felony possession of a controlled substance,
The case was sent to the County Attorney's office for review of formal charges.
The Sheriff's Department was assisted by St. Charles Police and the Southeastern Minnesota Narcotics and Gang Task Force.
