Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind of La Crosse says farmers should not be held hostage to dysfunction in Washington when it comes to the Farm Bill.
Lawmakers are now on a five-week recess without approving a new Farm Bill and Kind told a Winona Radio audience it's crucial the work gets done.
While the Senate approved a complete bill, the House separated it into two bills, the farm programs and the nutrition programs. Kind said the nutrition programs are just as important as the farm programs.
Kind predicts a split Farm Bill will be harder to pass than a measure which combines the two programs like previous bills have done over the past 50 years.
