Fort McCoy Cuts



 Civilian employees at Fort McCoy won't have to take as many unpaid days off this year as they initially expected.

The workers will have six furlough days, rather than the originally planned 11.

The furloughs were part of sequestration earlier this year that triggered automatic federal spending cuts. But Department of Defense officials say they were able to find about $1.5 billion in savings so the furloughs will end early rather than extend into September.

Linda Fournier is Fort McCoy's public-affairs officer. She says the decision means most of the 1,500 civilian employees at the base will complete their furlough days by next week......
