The Governor of South Dakota has asked the federal Surface Transportation Board to see if the Canadian Pacific Railway has done what it pledged to do when it purchased the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad in 2007.
The Rochester Post Bulletin said the C-P may be planning to sell off some DM&E track which would mean the new buyer would have limited or no opportunity to ship cargo beyond Tracy, Minnesota.
The C-P earlier decided against shipping coal to points east, including to and through Winona, after it purchased the DM&E. The demand for coal from Wyoming has diminished.
The C-P had announced it was looking into selling some 660 miles of its track in South Dakota.....
