Corn Harvest



Wisconsin's 2013 corn harvest is forecast at 468 million bushels, a 17 percent gain over 2012, according to government agriculture reports.     
    
The yield is expected to average 144 bushels per acre, up 23 bushels from 2012, and acreage harvested for grain was predicted at 3.25 million acres, down 50,000 acres from last year.

National Agricultural Statistics Service said Wisconsin's corn crop was rated at 61 percent good to excellent condition at the start of August.

Soybeans statewide in Wisconsin are forecast to reach 70.1 million bushels, down 410,000 bushels from 2012, yields expected to average 42 bushels per acre.

Alfalfa and mixtures for dry hay were expected to reach 4.1 million tons in Wisconsin, a gain of 70 percent over 2012. Yields were predicted at 3.2 tons per acre, up nearly a ton per acre from 2012.
