Motorists in Winona, Goodview and Minnesota City are experiencing some driving difficulties on Highway 61 thanks to a pair of separate projects going on at the same time.
Minnesota Department of Transportation spokesperson Kristen Kammueller told Winona Radio a "ditching" project is taking place along Highway 61 between Huff and Vila Streets resulting in a single lane of traffic westbound.
Ditching involves clearing and cleaning culverts that are located in the ditches alongside the roadway.
The project is expected to last through this week.
A second project extending from Pelzer Street to Minnesota City is a "chip-seal" project which involves shutting down one lane of traffic on Highway 61 in both directions while the highway is resurfaced. Kammueller said this happens two to four years after a highway has been resurfaced and helps with skid resistance on curves during the winter months making the highway safer.
Traffic in the work zone has been reduced to 40 miles an hour because of some loose gravel on the roadway caused by milling the original surface down.
