Ted Foss Law

Law Enforcement agencies across the State of Minnesota...including in Winona County...will increase enforcement of the Ted Foss Move Over Law on Saturday, August 31st, to remind motorists that emergency responders need room on the road to conduct their work safely.

Motorists are required to move over for stopped emergency vehicles that have emergency lights activated.

The move over law is named after State Patrol Trooper Ted Foss of Winona, who was killed 13 years ago by a passing vehicle as he was making a traffic stop on the shoulder of Interstate 90 near Lewiston.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says emergency and maintenance personnel stopped alongside the road with their emergency lights on are doing their part to help keep the roads safe. Winona County law enforcement agencies ask that you return the favor by safely moving your vehicle over one lane to help ensure everyone's safety.

Participating agencies in the one-day campaign are: Winona, Goodview, Lewiston and St.Charles police, along with the Winona County Sheriff's Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.....
