The Winona County Sheriff's Department is looking for someone to remove the sunken houseboat that went through Lock and Dam Seven at Dresbach in May throwing eleven people into the water.
Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude said the County Attorney's Office is drafting a letter to be sent to the houseboat owners, a bank, and an insurance company setting a deadline for removing the boat.
Ganrude said if the deadline is not met, the sheriff's department will seek bids from private firms to remove and salvage the boat.
He said the boat's owners, Mississippi River Rentals of La Crosse, have not been able to remove the boat because of unrelated legal problems.
The boat, and its eleven passengers went through the roller gate at the dam on May 27th, throwing its passengers into the water. They all survived.
No criminal charges were filed in the incident.
The boat is not impacting dam operations
