An eleven member committee has been appointed to begin studying the impacts of frack sand mining in Trempealeau County after the county's new moratorium went into affect this weekend.
The committee, which is expected to begin meeting after Labor Day, will study the health and environmental impacts of sand mining in the county.
The Trempealeau County Times reports the committee has four county supervisors, three healthcare professionals and three citizen members along with the director of the county's health department.
Friday was the deadline for new sand mine applications to be submitted prior to the moratorium.
The county currently has 26 sand mines permitted and another 18 applications in the preliminary stages of approval that were not expected to be completed before the deadline.....
