UW-La Crosse has teamed up with PEER Awareness to inform students about the dangers of texting while driving.
"AWARE TXT," a texting while driving simulator, will be on campus from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, September 6th, at Hoeschler (Hesch-ler) Tower. The AWARE-TXT Simulator allows students to sit in a real car which is suspended and monitored with sensors to simulate real driving.
The software renders a virtual field of vision, visible on a heads-up display worn by the "driver." The software also renders various road conditions, like rain and snow.
The simulator allows students to experience the difficulty of texting while driving. The simulator is operated by PEER Awareness, a health and wellness company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
