Dakota Sand Stockpile

The large stockpile of sand on Dakota Island, estimated at 250,000 cubic yards, is in the process of being removed.

The sand is being loaded on barges and transported downriver to the I-90/Dresbach Bridge and Approach Roadway Interchange Project now under construction.

The plan of operation is to load and transport barges from about 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. five days per week, Monday through Friday.  Unloading operations will generally occur from about 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. five days per week, Monday through Friday.  Operations began September 9 and are expected to continue into December 2013.

The construction area on the island has been temporarily closed to public access to protect the safety of visitors. Signs have been placed along the shoreline alerting visitors to the closure.
