Winona authorities are focusing on the cause of the fire that destroyed three buildings in downtown Winona as being electrical in nature.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said fire department personnel over the weekend finished cleaning by hand as much as they could of the rubble inside the back corner of the former Winona Islamic Center where they believe the fire originated.
Williams said authorities would still like to speak to anyone who had been inside the Islamic Center during the week prior to the fire which started early Friday. Anyone who had been inside is asked to call Williams at the police department .
Meanwhile, Second and Third Streets between Center and Lafayette are now both open to traffic, Center between Second and Third remains closed until it is patched up. Owners of businesses to the east of the Islamic Center continue cleanup activities and Williams said he was not sure how long it would be before they could re-open.
Williams also said it appears tenants in the apartments above the Blooming Grounds Coffee Shop could be allowed back into their residences possibly on Friday after a melted powerline is repaired and power is restored.
He said the fate of the most severely damaged buildings, including the Brosnahan Law Office, is unkown at this time.....
