Groundbreaking is expected to take place this month on a new state veterans cemetary to be located near Preston in Fillmore County.
The U-S Department of Veterans Affairs recently announced that $10,000,000 has been earmarked for the development of the cemetary which will serve veterans from the southern Minnesota region, along with Wisconsin and Iowa.
The Fillmore County Board donated the land for the cemetary.
Minnesota Public Radio reports that construction is expected to last about 18 months.
First District Congressman Tim Walz earlier said the new cemetary is good news for southern Minnesota and the veterans who live in this area.
It will be the second vets cemetary in the state. The other one is located in Little Falls.....
