Stone Point Park Project

Winona County Board members unanimously approved a conceptual master plan for the new Stone Point Park to be located off Highway 43 near the former Winona County Landfill.

The board also supported an application to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for a Legacy Grant for implementing the plan. The application must be submitted by an October 25th deadline.

Commissioner Steve Jacob, who represents western Winona County, called for more publicity on the plan so more county residents are aware of it.

Board members said they intend to use some creative funding to maintain the park once it is complete so that no county dollars will be used.

A successful Legacy Grant could provide 100-percent of the funds for developing the park.

Commissioner Jim Pomeroy called it a good plan but also pointed out it will not be implemented over night.

The plan sets priority objectives for development of the 400-acre park as a multi-use recreation area.....
