A company that helped organize Wisconsin's sand mining industry while pushing for superior environmental performance at the same time is the newest member to Wisconsin's Green Tier Program.
Department of Natural Resources Secretary Cathy Stepp welcomed U.S. Silica during a ceremony Thursday at the company's Sparta plant.
Stepp said the U.S. Silica is a great example of a company voluntarily taking their environmental performance to the next level, beyond regulatory compliance.
Stepp pointed out the company's exceptional track record for meeting the state's flagship environmental performance program, and outlined U.S. Silica's aggressive goals for the future, including achieving a 90 percent reduce-reuse-recycle rate and 100 percent engagement in sustainable and corporate responsibility.
The company is also a co-founder of the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Association, which requires every member of the association to be enrolled in the Green Tier Program.
