Houston County wants to upgrade its aging county courthouse and has requested $500,000 from the State of Minnesota to finance the improvements.
The Caledonia Argus reports county officials had a chance on October 8th to take the House Capital Investment Committee members on a tour of the building that houses the majority of county departments.
The committee, which also stopped in Winona, will prepare a House bonding bill during the 2014 session.
The 1885 building needs roof repairs, a new main entry, a new air conditioning system and an updated fire and safety system, among other improvements.
Republicans, Representative Greg Davids of Preston and Senator Jeremy Miller of Winona, toured the building last month and are supporting the request.
