Eau Claire Frac Sand

U.S. Silica is considering opening a frac sand mining operation that would be Eau Claire County's largest.

A company representative says the site under consideration is 650 acres in the Town of Fairchild. U.S. Silica says the Eau Claire operation would likely employ more than 60 people.

The operation would be larger than U.S. Silica's other Wisconsin mine, which is in Sparta.

A public meeting is scheduled Monday evening at the elementary school in Fairchild.

Currently, Eau Claire County has three frac sand operations, Hi Crush, High Country Sand and Five Star Properties.
