Police say eight people were hurt when a deck collapsed at an apartment building in Winona on Saturday.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said the incident happened at a student apartment building at 117 West Mark Street owned by Bluff City Properties and was reported at 2:16 p.m.
Sgt. Kevin Kearney told the Rochester Post-Bulletin that four people were transported to Winona Health and others went to there on their own. Kearney said it's not clear how many people were on the second-story deck when it gave way.
Winona Health says eight people were treated there, one was transferred to another facility for a higher level of care.
Williams said when police arrived at the scene the deck floor and stairs had been removed and were located in a nearby parking area. He said officers reported seeing students exiting the building using a stair railing as a ladder that was leaning up against the side of the building.
Williams said there were hundreds of students in the area at the time officers arrived. Winona State's football game was going on at the time.
