The Winona County Sheriff's Department identified the construction worker who fell from the Interstate 90 bridge project near Dresbach as 19-year-old Logan Scott Goodell of Wheeler, Wisconsin.
Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude said Goodell was employed by Ames Construction the firm that is working on a new bridge that will replace the current bridge.
Ganrude said witnesses reported Goodell was assisting with a concrete form on the outside of pier two. A safety railing had been removed to accommodate the concrete form.
Witnesses said Goodell stepped backward and fell 42 feet to the concrete slab at the base of the cofferdam where the pier was being constructed. Ganrude said witnesses reported Goodell struck a steel beam on the way down. They said he did not have his safety harness tied down.
Goodell was taken to a La Crosse hospital where he was listed in serious condition with life-threatening injuries Wednesday night.
