Frac Sand-Annexation

The Whitehall City Council earlier this week approved the annexation of about 640 acres of land where a large frack sand mine operation wants to open.

The Trempealeau County Times reports the vote was 4-to-2 in favor of the annexation petition submitted by Hi-Crush LLC, a subsidiary of a Houston, Texas company.

The firm wants to mine silica sand on the property along with operating a sand washing facility.

The Whitehall action follows action by the City of Independence a week earlier to reverse a decision and approve a petition to annex additional property bringing the total of land the company wants to develop into a mining, processing, and a rail loading operation, to about one-thousand acres in all, according to the paper.
