Typhoon-WSU Professor

A professor at Winona State University says his relatives in the Philippines are safe from the damages left by a massive typhoon.

Gabriel Manrique, Professor of Economics at WSU, says his mother in-law, brother in-law and aunts, uncles and cousins are all safe because they live in or near Manilla, which experienced heavy rains but no widespread damage.

Manrique says he was in constant communication with his family since last week because they had experienced some flooding in the past and he was worried about them.

As many as 10,000 people -- and perhaps more -- are dead in the Philippines as a result of the typhoon that struck on Friday.
