They used to be banned in the classroom and at school but now Wnona Senior High School as begun to embrace the idea of allowing students to use cellphones or I-pads in school.
Principal Kelly Halvorson told a Winona Radio audience students are using the devices anyway so they may as well be encouraged, under the new "Bring Your Own Device" program, to use them the right way and to their own advantage.

But Halvorson also says using the technology can create problems and that is why the high school has a filter on its wireless system.

Halvorson said the school district is also working on ways to help provide the devices to families who otherwise are unable to afford them.
