Buffalo County Reserve Funds

Reserve funds Buffalo County plans to spend in 2014 will mostly go for public mental health services, road paving and courthouse improvements.

The county Department of Health & Human Services is using $608,700 from account reserves to pay for budgeted 2014 expenses, some $431,000 slotted for public cost of mental health patient services.

Some $375,000 was budgeted from county general funds to hire private contracting of paving work on three miles of county trunk highway in 2014.

The county board wants to find out if bidding pavement projects to road construction businesses can save money.

A move to compare private bid prices with highway department cost of paving was advocated by the board's highway and finance committees.

Another $295,000 from general funds is targeted for sheriff's department computer and radio systems and improvements of courthouse buildings and grounds.
