Mayo Expansion

Mayo Clinic announced Monday a plan to expand one portion of St. Mary's Hospital and renovate another portion.

According to a release on the Mayo Clinic website, both projects, costing 72.1 million dollars will begin in 2014 and be completed in early 2016.

Mayo said the project will replace 73 inpatient beds currently located in the Joseph Building, which was built in 1922 and has become outdated.

The release said the renovation to the third floor of the Domitilla Building, which currently houses one of the largest adult general care inpatient units at Mayo, will modernize the unit by providing private patient rooms with bathrooms and showers and adding ceiling lifts.
