Booze and Belts

Fountain City Police Officer Jason Mork says the local police department will participate in Wisconsin's "Booze & Belts" driver safety movement from Dec. 13th through the 21st.

The goal is to make the holiday season safer for everyone by saving lives and preventing injuries rather than issuing more tickets.

Law enforcement agencies from across the state will be focusing attention on drunken driving and use of safety belts.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says 223 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in Wisconsin last year. Another 3,000 were injured.

An estimated 20 percent of drivers in Wisconsin do not use their seat belts.
