School Board- Spanish Immersion
The Winona Area Public School Board met Thursday and received an update from Superintendent Scott Hannon on the framework and supporting information for a Spanish Immersion program next fall at Madison Elementary School.
Hannon says the plan, put together by the 20 member committee that has been put in charge of coming up with the details, would include teaching Spanish in one of two sections at Madison in Kindergarten and 1st grade. There would be one teacher for each grade level.
The goal is to enroll 23 students in Kindergarten and 25 in 1st grade, with 20 being the minimum in both grades.
The committee also recommends offering Spanish 1 as an elective to all 7th and 8th graders and Spanish 2 as an elective course to all 8th graders.
The Board is expected to vote on the proposal at their next meeting, Thursday, December 19th.
