Project FINE, a non-profit organization serving newcomers throughout Winona County, is the recipient of a $4,000 grant from the Toro Foundation through the Ready.Set.GROW! contest.
This was the first year of the contest, which promotes sustainable practices in agricultural communities across America.
Project FINE was nominated by Caitlyn Nicholson, Winona County VISTA volunteer. They received over 1,000 votes in the contest and were awarded second place.
Grant funds will support the continuation of the Colorful Growers project, which is designed to provide diverse youth aged 10-18 with a unique agricultural and entrepreneurial experience. Through the project, youth participate in educational sessions on agriculture, plant garden plots and develop business and marketing skills by selling their crops at local venues.
