Authorities conducted a five-hour search Saturday after they received a report of an abandoned vehicle that had been involved in a crash.
Winona County Deputy Bill Spitzer said authorities were called to an area near the Winona-Houston County line about 2:00 p.m. Saturday and discovered footprints leading from the vehicle into some nearby woods.
Spitzer said the Winona County Search and Rescue Team was called out to conduct a ground search, along with a State Patrol helicopter and the La Crescent Fire Department when it was feared the driver of the vehicle may have been injured or disoriented and wondered away.
Spitzer said after about five hours the driver was located in La Crosse and was uninjured. Spitzer say the driver had gotten a ride from a friend but had not reported the crash to authorities.
Spitzer identified the driver as David Weigel of rural La Crescent.
