The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Winona officials should find out soon which contractor will be hired for the Highway 43 bridge project.
Project Manager Terry Ward told Winona Radio News the final four contractors on the short list have submitted their proposals and an announcement of the successful firm will be made about the middle of next week.
The proposals are still undergoing evaluation.
The four finalists are: Lunda Construction of Black River Falls,...Ames Construction of Burnsville, Minnesota...Edward Kraemer and Sons, Incorporated, from Burnsville, Michigan...and PCL Civil Constructors from Tampa, Florida.
One of the four finalists will be hired to handle the Winona project under the Construction Manager Contractor role which bypasses the usual public bidding process.
Minn-DOT says the four firms were chosen based on their qualifications, including evaluation of the contractor's background, and experience with projects similar to the Winona Bridge Project.
Both Lunda and Ames Construction firms were recently chosen by Minn-DOT to jointly construct the new Stillwater bridge over the Mississippi River.
Winona's two-bridge project, costing an estimated 150-to-175 million dollars, is expected to begin next summer. It includes constructing a new bridge over the Mississippi River and rehabbing the existing bridge.
