At Lock and Dam 5-A at Fountain City, the transportation industry shipped 6.7 tons of commodities through the lock in 2013 compared to 7.7 tons in 2012 .
There were 1,131 commercial lockages this season along with just over 2,000 recreational vessels which locked through.
The commercial navigation season locally lasted from April 8th through December 2nd.....
The shipment of commodities at locks 4 in Alma, 5 in Minneiska, 6 in Trempealeau, and 7 in La Crescent also showed similar drops in tonnage. The Army Corps says navigation statistics fluctuate from year to year, depending on the weather, river flows, and the length of the navigation season.
