The Buffalo County Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing in the courthouse in Alma on Monday, December 17th, at 11:00 a.m. to consider a conditional-use permit for a limestone quarry in the town of Montana.
Hildegard Bragger Trust of Montana and Gerke Excavating, LLC, of Tomah, are seeking a permit to open a quarry for mining limestone to sell for roadwork projects, driveways, lots and other construction uses.
The proposed project has received endorsements from the Montana Town Board as well as Buffalo County land resources and highway committees.
Plans call for a two-phase quarry project over 20 years with limestone extractions estimated at 300,000 tons annually.
As many as 50 trucks a day would haul the limestone from the quarry
Limestone would be crushed and screened on-site. A reclamation plan for returning post-quarry property to pasture and woodland was approved by the state Department of Natural Resources......
