Mayo-Autopsies

Starting January First, Winona County will be formally turning over its death investigations to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Sheriff Dave Brand said Mayo is currently training several local people to respond to death scenes in place of the county coroner who will be retiring.

The five responders will be made up of emergency medical service and ambulance personnel whose response time should be lowered to about 30 minutes.

Brand said all autopsies will be conducted at the MayoClinic.

The responders will be called out on a rotating basis

Brand said Hoff Funeral Home has been hired by Mayo to transport victims to Rochester.
