Deer Damage

Winona County landowners had a chance Monday night to voice their concerns with the Minnesota DNR over crop damage caused by hungary deer.
About 60 people attended a special meeting at Southeast Tech  with DNR reprsentatives along with State Representative Steve Drazkowski and Senator Matt Schmit.

Local landowner Bob Marg, who organized the meeting, said one farmer complained about losing some $15,000 in crops to deer on his land.

Landowners also sought to have the DNR pay for their crop damage but Marg said they were told that cannot, under the law, be done.

Marg said landowners are seeking changes in the law to allow them to take more deer that wonder on to their property.

Marg said Drazkowski is working on legislation in an effort to address the landowner's concerns, while the DNR made no commitments at the meeting......
