School Board-Preschool W-K

The Winona Area Public School Board Thursday unanimously approved starting a full-day childcare program at W-K Elementary School next fall.

The preschool will be sponsored by Winona State University and will serve about 40 children, ages 22-60 months. Priority will be given to children who met the criteria of being "at-risk", children of currently enlisted parents or veterans, and children in the W-K school attendance or children of W-K staff.

Superintendent, Scott Hannon, told the board it was a good example of teamwork between W-K and WSU.

Hannon says the school district will waive the $1,000 monthly rent fee for WSU for the first couple years of the preschool program.

Hannon says the WSU Children’s Center will run the preschool and will cover the costs, which includes the estimated renovation costs of about $125,000.
