Trempealeau County is expected to receive $1,400,000 in environmental impact fees from the CAP-X-2020 power line project and cities and towns impacted by the project are expected to line up seeking some of those funds.
The project involves constructing a 345-kilovolt power line through Buffalo and Trempealeau counties ending near La Crosse. It's a joint effort by 11-utility companies.
According to the Trempealeau County Times, in addition to the one-time environmental fee of 9.3 million dollars paid to the state to be distributed to communities, each community impacted by the project is expected to receive annual payments of about $538,000.
The City of Independence has already asked for $500,000 from the environmental fees.....
