The Winona City Council met for the first time in the new year on Monday.
The council unanimously approved a capital budget request to bond funds for the funding of the extension of Louisa Street.
Winona City Manager Judy Bodway talked about the needed funding for the extension of Louisa Street, citing safety concerns. She says it's vital that emergency personel have access to Winona's east end in case Highway 61 and Mankato Avenue was ever blocked.
Bodway says the city has been trying to get state funding for the project for many years.
The total cost of the project is just over 8.4-million dollars and the city is requesting about half that amount in Capital Bond funds.
