EMS Agreement

The Winona County Board of Commissioners has approved an agreement with the Gundersen Health System Emergency Medical Services Communication Center.

The agreement allows the private center to give pre-arrival instructions to ambulance crews sent to emergency scenes in the county, something the Winona County Dispatch Center is not certified to do.

Dispatch Center Supervisor Mike Peterson the service will be provided free of charge.

Winona Health Emergency Room Physician Dr. John Gallagher said a major benefit is the reduction in the use of emergency responder's red lights and sirens making it safer for responders.

Gallagher said the agreement allows Winona County to meet international standards of care on emergency medical calls, and prioritize calls so the most serious calls can be delt with first.
