Franken-Unemployment

Minnesota Senator Al Franken says he is pushing for Congress to pass an extension to emergency unemployment benefits for millions of Americans because it will create more jobs.

Franken told a Winona Radio audience it's the smart thing to do, not only for the unemployed, but also for the economy, because people get that money right away.

Franken says currently there are some 3.6 million Americans who lost their unemployment benefits at the end of 2013 and some 65,000 in Minnesotans alone.

The Senate has passed one 60-vote procedural hurdle to reinstate the benefits, but Franken says a second favorable vote is still needed before the bill goes to the House of Representatives.
