The Winona County foodshelves benefited in 2013 from some new gardens located at Winona County's newest park.
A number local groups planted food at Stone Point Park and VISTA coordinator Kaitlin Nickleson told Winona County Commissioners 4,000 pounds of food were the result.
Different organizations included the county's Master Gardeners and the youth gardeners who are part of the "Colorful Growers" youth program under the direction of Project FINE.
Much of the products produced at Stone Point Park were also sold at the St. Charles Farmers Market which expanded its vendors during 2013 and plans to continue in 2014.
The Colorful Growers program is for youth 10 to 16 years old and provides instruction on how to grow food and take care of the gardens.
