Corn Crop

Farmers in Buffalo, Pepin and Trempealeau counties contributed to Wisconsin's 445 million bushel corn harvest in 2013.

More than 3 million acres of total corn were harvested for grain with an average yield of 146 bushels per acre.

Soybean production statewide was down 17 percent mostly due to bad spring weather that prevented or delayed plantings.

The average soybean yield per acre statewide also dropped by 3.5 bushels, according to National Agricultural Statistics Service.

In hay production, Wisconsin farmers harvested 1.1 million acres of alfalfa and mixed alfalfa dry hay in 2013, up more than a million acres.

Corn in Wisconsin was selling for an average $4.10 per bushel in December, down some $2.75 from December 2012. Soybeans were averaging $12.80 per bushel in December, $1.20 less than a year ago.
