The body of a La Crosse man who had been missing for 14 days following a car crash in Winona was recovered in the Mississippi River Sunday afternoon.
Winona County Sheriff David Brand told Winona Radio News the body of 29-year-old Andrew Kingsbury was found about 3:45 p.m. Sunday by a team of 14 people from Washington County who were conducting a search.
Brand said an underwater camera discovered the body just south of the interstate bridge in about 10 feet of water. The body was pulled out by divers about one hour later and sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for an autopsy.
Kingsbury was one of four people in an SUV that veered off of Huff Street, crashed through a guardrail, and landed in the river on January 5th. The other bodies were recovered shortly after the crash.
Brand said a robot with sonar technology located the body bringing an end to the massive search that had involved some 30 different agencies and about 1,500 man hours.
