More than 60 people were at a Town of Buffalo public hearing where the town board recommended denial of a Quality Sands mining application.
Buffalo Town Board Chairman Steve James said the town board voted 3-0 against the project, advising the Buffalo County Board of Adjustment to deny a permit sought by Errol Doerr for an industrial sand mining operation in Piepers Valley.
Doerr seeks a conditional-use zoning permit to mine sand and limestone from 22 acres of land on his 159-acre homestead at W199 Piepers Valley Road.
James said Doerr presented a well-organized site plan and mine proposal, but it did not adequately address some critical issues.
Those issues, James said, involved impact and implications of trucking sand and stone on some 1.25 miles of Piepers Valley Road, a town road under jurisdiction of the Town of Buffalo.
