The Cochrane-Fountain City School Board is united on a game plan for trying to stop a proposed industrial railway project near the school grounds in the Town of Milton.
Glacier Sands, LLC, a frac-sand mining developer, and two landowners, want the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors to approve rezoning 350 acres of land from agricultural to industrial use for a railway load-out facility for frac-sand and agricultural products.
The board also decided to have district superintendent Tom Hiebert testify against a Badger Bluff Sands, LLC, application for a permit to mine frac-sand in Schoepps Valley and Oak Valley in the Town of Waumandee.
The school board has engaged a new law firm to represent the district's stand against frac-sand mining and related industrial sand facilities within an undefined perimeter of school property.
The school board took a similar stand two years ago when it opposed frac-sand projects the district said would lead to more trucking and processing of sand near school grounds......
The Buffalo County Zoning Board of Adjustment is scheduled to convene a public hearing on the Badger Bluff mining permit at 11 a.m. Friday 1/31 at the courthouse in Alma.
