The Federal Highway Administration announced Thursday they have determined the proposed improvements for the Winona Bridge Project will have no significant impact to the human or natural environment.
The Finding of No Significant Impact finding is based upon the Environmental Assement, which was independently evaluated by the FHWA and determined to adequately discuss the need, environmental issues, and impacts of the proposed project and appropriate mitigation measures.
MnDOT District 6 Engineer Jeff Vlaminck says the finding represents a significant milestone for the bridge project. It authorizes final design and construction of the new bridge along with preservation of the existing bridge.
The Highway 43 Winona Bridge is scheduled to begin construction in July.
