City Council

The Winona City Council on Monday will be asked for permission to place a Purple Heart monument near the Lake Park bandshell.
The request comes from the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and is being supported by the Veteran's Memorial Committee.

All materials and construction costs would be provided by the local chapter.

In addition, the council will be asked to approve a motion from councilman Paul Double to seek the denial of future funding for the Frozen River Film Festival by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Board because the festival pulled the showing of an anti-fracking movie at the festival.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
